From Passion to Purpose
The Story Behind Kat N' Jay Coaching
Kat's Story
Growing up, fitness was woven into the fabric of my life. From my earliest memories of playing sports to teaching aerobics classes across Winnipeg, I've always been passionate about helping others improve their health. After graduating, I landed my dream job as the Employee Fitness Coordinator for CN Railway, where I spent 14 fulfilling years nurturing a culture of wellness.
Life threw me a curveball in 2006 with a tumultuous divorce that left me and my two young children living in my parents' basement. Despite the challenges, I persevered, finding solace and strength in running, completing three full marathons and numerous races to nurture my mental health.
But my journey didn't stop there. I ventured into entrepreneurship, opening Urban Wellness Centre and later Blue Sky Fitness Studio, driven by a desire to provide a more personalized fitness experience. These experiences were instrumental in the creation of Kat N' Jay Coaching, where my husband, Jay, and I bring together our expertise to empower others in their wellness journey.
I'm an entrepreneur who is passionate about fitness, and I enjoy healthy nourishing foods, reading, being in nature, listening to podcasts, travelling, hiking, and spending time with my husband Jayson and our five kids. My love language is getting 8 hours of sleep!
Jay's Story
From a young age, I was drawn to the competitive spirit of sports. Football became my passion, driving me to excel both on and off the field. But life took an unexpected turn when a serious injury threatened to derail my athletic career. After a near-fatal accident, I faced the harsh reality that I might never play contact sports again. However, with unwavering determination and resilience, I defied the odds and made a triumphant return to the field.
My journey led me to the Canadian Football League, where I spent five seasons playing professionally.
After retiring from the CFL, I rediscovered my passion for athleticism and joined my wife, Kat, on the path to empowering others through personal training. Together, we're committed to helping aging adults reclaim control over their health and vitality.
When I'm not coaching, you can find me outside, enjoying nature – whether it's savouring a cup of coffee on the deck, embarking on a leisurely bike ride with Kat, or taking our dog, Kevin, for a stroll.
